The following birds of note were reported this week from Presque Isle S.P., Pa.
Red-necked Grebe 1; Nov. 8; Sunset Point (waterbird count) Short-eared Owl 1; Nov. 9; Sunset Point (waterbird count) Snow Buntings have been fairly regular the past week at Gull Point. The following birds of note were reported this past week in Erie County: Harlequin Duck 1 pair; Nov. 15; Sunset Point (waterbird count), Presque Isle S.P. Snowy Owl 1; Nov. 12; downtown Erie 1; Nov. 15; Gull Point, Presque Isle S.P. Based upon distinct plumage differences, these were two different birds. Evening Grosbeak 1; Nov. 15; Harborcreek feeder With the winter storm came many reports of birds not often seen this late in the fall, mostly from feeding stations, including Fox Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Common Grackle and Red-winged Blackbird. The following birds of note were reported this week from Presque Isle State Park all during the waterbird count at Sunset Point. Harlequin Duck 1 pair; Nov. 18 1 likely different male based upon more advanced plumage; Nov. 19 Pacific Loon 1 basic plumage; Nov. 23 Red-necked Grebe 2; Nov. 21 Eared Grebe 1; Nov. 21 Parasitic Jaeger 1 imm.; Nov. 18 All three scoters and Long-tailed Ducks continue to be seen nearly daily, with some scoters staging off Beach 11. Fox, Chipping, and White-crowned Sparrows, not often reported at feeders in late fall, are still being seen from various sites throughout the county. The following birds of note were reported from Presque Isle S.P., unless noted otherwise: Snow Goose 4; Nov. 30; Fairview Red-throated Loon 38 (high count); Nov. 29; Sunset Pount (waterbird count) Red-necked Grebe 1; Nov. 25; Sunset Point (waterbird count) 2; Nov. 28; channel 1; Nov. 29; Sunset Point (waterbird count) Common Redpoll 1; Nov. 25; feeder at ranger's station |
