The following birds of note were reported for July in Erie County, Pa.
Whimbrel--1; June 30; Gull Point Common Tern--still up to five active nests; July 3; Gull Point White-throated Sparrow--1 singing; July 2; Pine Tree Trail Pine Siskin--up to 4; through the week; Fairview 1; July 5; Greene Twp. An adult Merlin with at least three chicks in a nest; July 9; west Erie There may be up to five pairs of Common Terns still incubating at Gull Point on Presque Isle S.P., though several nests have been preyed upon by predators in the past couple of weeks. Willet 2; July 9; Gull Point Whimbrel 3; July 6; Gull Point 1; July 9; Gull Point Pine Siskin several are still coming to a bird feeder in Fairview 1; July 11; Ranger's station feeder at Presque Isle S.P. Black-crowned Night-Heron 1 immature; July 14, near Vista 1. Whimbrel 1; July 14; Gull Point The tern nesting event this year was unsuccessful. No eggs managed to survive high water or predation. To date, there are no longer any active nests at Gull Point on Presque Isle S.P. A portion Gull Point Trail at the west end is still under water, with up to 18" in some places. It has been slow that last couple of weeks with little to report. Gull Point Trail is still under two to three feet of water in places, so it is a challenge to get out there, but little has been happening shorebird-wise out there anyway.
