Weekly Bird Report, May 19 - 25, 2014

The following birds of note were reported this past week from Presque Isle S.P.
  • White-winged Scoter..1; May 20 to 25; channel, Beach 7, and Gull Point
  • Olive-sided Flycatcher..2; May 25; Pine Tree trail and Fry's landing
  • Golden-winged Warbler..1; May 20 & 21; Graveyard Pond Trail
  • Kentucky Warbler..1; May 21; Graveyard Pond Trail

There are still several species of diving ducks still present on the park including Greater & Lesser scaup, Redhead, Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser, and Ruddy Duck.

The following birds of note were reported this past week from Presque Isle S.P. unless noted otherwise:
  • Least Bittern..1; May 18; Niagara Pond
  • Willet..1; to May 13; Gull Point with the same or perhaps a different bird again on May 17.
  • Long-billed Dowitcher..1 in full breeding plumage, and was heard calling; May 13; Gull Point
  • Worm-eating Warbler..1; May 13; Fry's landing 1; May 16; Sidewalk Trail
  • Golden-winged Warbler..1; May 13; Pine Tree Trail
  • Kentucky Warbler..1; May 15 & 16; Sidewalk Trail
  • Summer Tanager..1 imm. male; May 18, Harborcreek Twp.

Weather:
Mostly clear with west wind and temps. reaching the mid-60s.
Raptor Observations: 
Only a couple of Turkey Vultures moving the right direction.  At least 24 were seen going the wrong way, west.  Russ States assisted Roger Donn at the hawk watch while I was serving on jury duty.
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions:
Still warmer.  If there are still any hawks left, there could be movement if the winds are out of the south.
